SANTA MONICA SURF FC UPSL

The Pro-Development Team plays in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL). The UPSL is considered the 4th tier in the American Professional Soccer Pyramid. The UPSL have teams from MLS Clubs.  Santa Monica Surf’s UPSL team will enter into the Open Cup. The Open Cup is the country’s oldest ongoing national soccer competition. Upon winning 5 matches in a row Santa Monica Surf will be eligible to play against professional soccer teams in their stadiums.

The Pro-Development Team largely consists of former Division I college players and former professional and semi-professional players. The roster also includes current SM Surf coaches and SM Surf graduates. The Pro-Development Team is expected to be a home for top SM Surf players and graduates looking to continue their development, and even those who strive to reach the professional ranks.

We encourage SM Surf alums to train with the team upon graduation and in between college semesters. We also encourage SM Surf Youth players to ask their coach about opportunities to train and play with the Pro-Development Team. This can be a very helpful step in the college recruiting process.

The Pro-Development Team plays two 10-game seasons. The Spring season runs roughly from March to July and the Fall season runs roughly from September to December.

The Pro-Development Team trains and plays home games in Santa Monica.

The UPSL

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams in over 30 states. It is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 400-plus teams targeted for the 2019 Fall Season. UPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league’s affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). Playing in the UPSL does not impact collegiate eligibility.

More information about the UPSL can be found at www.upslsoccer.com or by following the league on Facebook (www.facebook.com/upslsoccer) and Twitter (@upslsoccer).
